The popular Nigerian singer, Oladokun Abimbola Elijah, better known as Bayanni, has said Argentine footballer, Lionel Messi didn’t deserved to win the 2023 men’s Ballon d’Or.

According to him, anyone else could have won it but not Messi.

Naijahits recalls that Messi saw off competition from Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and others to win a record-extending eighth award.

Reacting in a recent interview with Cool FM Nigeria, Lagos, Bayanni said the Inter Miami player didn’t do enough to win the award, arguing that a lot of other players have won the World Cup in the past and weren’t handed the Ballon d’Or.

He said, “Based on what I’ve been hearing from people, Messi won the Ballon d’Or because he won the World Cup. But many people collected World Cup trophies in the past and they didn’t win the Ballon d’Or.

“What I’m saying is that it should have been Haaland or somebody else but not Messi.
